Shorter Working Week

Issue No. 004-2026

TO:  ALL T&FS BRANCHES

Dear Colleague

NATIONAL SHORTER WORKING WEEK ACTIVITY – 9th – 13th MARCH 2026

Despite the growing national and international movement calling for fewer working hours with no loss of pay, and the expanding body of evidence showing benefits for workers and employers alike, we know that companies will need considerable persuasion to consider any trial. This is why the involvement of union members is so important- companies are only likely to engage in talks for a trial if the breadth and depth of their employees’ support for it is visible.

During the activity week, we’re asking members and branches to demonstrate support for the campaign as a first step to pushing employers to agree to trialling a shorter working week. Your leadership is critical to its success.

We are asking all  to do the following:

  • Print the attached posters and take photos of yourselves on site holding them. If possible, please print in size A3 in colour.
  • Send your photos via Whatsapp to the Comms Department on 07907 502 190. Please send them in as you get them and include their first name and place of work.
  • Post your photos to your own social media channels (Facebook, X, LinkedIn) using the hashtag #ShorterWorkingWeek.

We need everybody every to help to get #ShorterWorkingWeek trending on the day. We will visits to sites present an opportunity to engage non-members on a positive pro-active issue that everyone can get behind.
