Full Time Officer - Dave Booker

I joined BT in 1989 and the NCU on the same day, in London’s old Westminster District. I first became involved with the union through the branch committee, and later via Health & Safety.

I went full-time with the union when we merged three London branches into one, forming London South Central based at Delta Point in Croydon. Eventually, I became Branch Secretary.

Later, I was elected to the old COOC (Clerical Executive at HQ) and remained there until I stepped away from union roles and moved to Margate. For personal reasons, I decided to return to work at BT. About a year later, I was approached to return as a rep for the Meridian Branch in Canterbury.

Over time, I became Branch Chair and then Branch Secretary, a role I held until the recent merger that created South East Telecoms.

That’s the day job—and by night, I’m the bass player in a punk band called Surgery Without Research.
